sensations and mental processes. Courses last for a minimum of ten
days and are austere – includes, ten to eleven  hours of meditation a
day, light food and no food in evening hours and no talking for the

devotion oriented practice of mantra meditation which involves

with scientific research demonstrating the benefits of the practice.

Self-Enquiry or “who am I” meditation which was introduced and
expanded upon by the 20th-century by Indian sage Maharishi Raman. This

to the question “Who am I?” the intimate knowledge of our true Self,
our true being.

Focusing attention on the “spot between the eyebrows” called “the
third eye” or “ajna chakra” meditation.

Chakra Meditation includes focusing on the seven chakras i.e. “energy
centres” of the body typically doing some visualizations and chanting
a specific mantra for each chakra (lam, vam, ram, yam, ham, om). Most
commonly it is done on the heart chakra, third eye, and crown chakra.

While Trataka Meditation speaks about fixing the gaze on an external
object, typically a candle, image or a symbol (yantras) with eyes open
and closed, to train both the concentration and visualization powers
of the mind.

For awakening the “kundalini energy” which lies dormant on the base of
the spine, there is Kundalini Meditation associated with several
dangers and strictly advised not to be attempted without the guidance
of an enlightened master.

Kriya Yoga meditation, the most suited practice for those who have a
devotional temperament, is a set of energization, breathing, and
meditation exercises taught by shri Paramahamsa Yogananda. Good for
the people seeking the spiritual aspects of meditation.

Sound Meditation (Nada Yoga) — focusing on the “internal sounds” of
the body and mind. The aim is to hear the “Ultimate Sound” called
Anahata nada which is a sound without vibration, and that manifests as
“OM” or Aum.
